Chaotic, Crowded, and Colorful.

"Mahal" is an AR experience immersing users in the vibrant energy of Southeast Asian street markets. On a scorching summer day, interact with a vendor offering refreshing Filipino desserts to beat the heat!


Goals

  • Educate users of South and Southeast Asian cultural parallels

  • Immerse users in lively environments, based on real places

  • Engage users in language-learning and facilitate tourism



Build Errors


Image tracking worked until animation crashed; event system was tricky to develop. Panels aligned with user flow, but prefab issues disrupted the setup.

Animations


Syncing animations with clips and audio was challenging, resolved with a master controller. Awkward 2D animation in Unity was fixed by flipping a hand.




Scriptwriting and Voice Acting


Acting out Scenes IRL, recorded in new audio software.


Challenges vs Solutions

Low-Fidelity Prototype

Low-poly prototype created to test the scene's feel, event system, and interactions.

Key Findings:

  • Opted to create a real installation of a stall to have a more realistic presence

  • More focus on the character animation to help narrate the story
