Research

During BhangAR's research phase, I studied articles, listened to podcasts featuring pre-partition Bhangra dancers, and spoke with Punjabi dancers to explore their personal connections and the cultural significance of the dance.

Motion Capture ~ Vicon Shogun

Gursajan, The Bhangra Dancer, was strapped into a motion capture suit with over 50 markers. Used Vicon Shogun to record various dance sequences.

Animation Cleanup & Mesh Retargeting

Used Vicon Shogun to refine animation data, then imported the mesh and animation coordinates into Maya. Attached the Vicon rig to an existing model, transferring animations, and further cleaned the coordinates in Maya.

Developed in Spark AR

Exported the mesh and animation from Maya to Spark AR, prioritizing the mesh to fit within the 4MB storage limit

Developing BhangAR enhanced my problem-solving skills and cross-functional expertise through:

Motion Capture & Rigging: Mastered precision in Vicon and Maya, ensuring seamless rigging and animations with no compromise on quality.

Attention to Detail: Learned to address minor inaccuracies that could impact outcomes.

Platform Integration: Managed complex workflows across Vicon, Maya, and Spark AR for efficient AR development and 3D animation.
